Graham Robb Photography - Scottish photographer, composer, and musician
Thanks for visiting!
Jazz composer, opera composer, and bass guitarist Graham Robb rehearsing with HEAD2HEAD, which plays compositions by jazz composer Graham Robb at the Jazz Bar, Edinburgh

My name is Graham Robb. I'm a double bass player who also plays bass guitar, and who writes & performs all kinds of new Scottish music, including new jazz, opera, and new music theatre, with a number of new shows to my name. My short opera, "Flora and the Prince", was performed at Carnegie Hall, New York, last October, and is being developed into a full-length piece, and I'm writing another short opera for Carnegie Hall for the next Opera Shorts Festival.

New music - at last! You wouldn't believe how long it takes to prepare this stuff even after you've written it!
Two slim volumes of my music now available at - three Jazz Shakespeare sonnets, three piano pieces, and downloads of a cappella choral music. Click on the link  and look for me - demo recordings performed by Seumas Begg and Karen McIver - what more could you want!

JAZZ: I've been simultaneously busy and lazy recently: busy writing a lot of new music for HEAD2HEAD, creating a new edition of Charpentier's "Messe de Minuit" for Pitlochry & District Choral Society (which I conduct), working with international maestro Iain Sutherland to recreate the City of Perth Sinfonia as a new freelance orchestra, and lazy because I haven't updated this website in eons!
However I just HAVE to state here and now that the new-look, and more importantly the new-sound, for HEAD2HEAD is brilliant! We're now a septet - SEVEN of us! - all crowded onto the stage at the Jazz Bar for the last couple of nights! Two great gigs!
The new line-up is:
Alan Wylie - trumpet
Sam Coombes - tenor
Joe Williamson - guitar
me - bass guitar. (I have to play electric, there's no room for the string bass!)
As always, I write the music.
Adding newcomer Adam playing the baritone to the already powerhouse front line makes the sound HUGE, and Joe Williamson is an extraordinarily exciting new young player. One to watch!
We'll be back... watch this space!

From today's HERALD (20th March) Rab Adams

Part of Robb's song cycle based on the works of American poet ee cummings, Songs of War, Life & Love, the piece will be performed by Pitlochry and District Choral Society on BBC Radio 3 this Sunday afternoon. The full song cycle will be performed at Pitlochry Parish Church on Sunday April 13. Robb is currently working on an opera commission from Carnegie Hall, New York, having impressed music programmers at the iconic venue with his Flora and the Prince opera short last year.

As it's the centenary of the outbreak of the "Great War", we're performing Karl Jenkins "The Peacemakers", and my brand-new piece "Songs of War, Life & Love" in Pitlochry on Sunday, 13th April.
The Sinfonia is primarily the orchestra for the various choral societies in the Perth area, but I'm looking to expand our activities, travelling further afield and trying new things...

Classical music:  I've just taken over as the fixer for the City of Perth Sinfonia, which accompanies Perth Choral Society twice a year as well as some other choirs. I have meetings to schedule in order to sort out exactly what's happening. Still with my local hat hat on, in January I take over as the Musical Director of Pitlochry Choral. Watch this space....
